Infectious arthritis is well known in intravenous drug users, but it is rare in HIV positive patients, who are prone to bacterial infections from usual or unusual microorganisms.

The most dangerous strains are those that display resistance to multiple antibiotics.

This is the case of MRSA[1], resistant to Meticillin, widespread in hospitals and posing a major public health concern.

The strains were screened using PCR for their agr subtype, classic superantigens (SEA, SEB, SEC, SED or TSST-1), the egc cluster (SEG, SEI, SEM, SEN, and SEO and other enterotoxins (SEE, SEH, SEJ, SEK, and SEL) distinct from the egc locus. aureus strains had at least one enterotoxin in their DNA.

The egc gene cluster was identified in 27 (67.5%) strains.
