The purpose of this article is to suggest one of the many ways in which values education can be incorporated into existing mathematics curricula and approaches to teaching mathematics.

In particular, it will focus on ways in which values education can be enhanced by utilising a problem-solving approach to teaching mathematics.

Shlomo Libeskind is a professor in the mathematics department at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

He is responsible for the "pre-college" teaching major in the department and has continuously been teaching and advising preservice and inservice teachers. Libeskind has extensive writing experience (books, articles, and workshop materials) as well as experience in directing mathematics education projects.
