The study found that the crime rate in US counties that have Walmart stores declined at a much lower rate than the rest of the country since the 1990s. American Drugs, Inc., pharmacy retailer American Drugs accused Walmart of selling items at too low a cost for the purpose of injuring competitors and destroying competition.

Walmart has been accused of selling merchandise at such low costs that competitors have tried to sue it for predatory pricing (intentionally selling a product at low cost in order to drive competitors out of the market). The Supreme Court of Arkansas ruled in favor of Walmart saying that its pricing, including the use of loss leaders, was not predatory pricing.

Walmart's critics say that Walmart's lower prices draw customers away from smaller Main Street businesses, hurting local small-town communities.

Critics also say that Walmart is hurting the United States economy because of excessive reliance on Chinese products.

Walmart has been accused of using monopoly power to force its suppliers into self-defeating practices. Lynn, a senior fellow at the New America Foundation (a think tank), said that Walmart's constant demand for lower prices caused Kraft Foods to "shut down thirty-nine plants, to let go [of] 13,500 workers, and to eliminate a quarter of its products." Kraft was unable to compete with other suppliers and said the cost of production had gone up due to higher energy and raw material costs.

Lynn said that in a free market, Kraft could have passed those costs on to its distributors and ultimately consumers.

Summary Walmart is the world’s largest retailer with more than 8,400 stores globally and is now considering going green.

Walmart moves massive amounts of products and uses a lot of other resources to operate its business and now they are trying to transform itself into a company that is seen as environmental friendly.

The first step of Walmarts three-phase plan was receiving information from its 100,000 suppliers about their greenhouse gas emissions, water waste reduction efforts and other details about business practices.

The second step of the phase was entering all the information into a database.
