It can be very frustrating without the help of skilled math teachers to guide students with probing questions toward math problem-solving.Individual guidance to take them through a critical thinking process is key to helping them synthesize the necessary math skills needed to be successful in their approach to problem-solving.There are many approaches to solving math problems.Do they plan to work themselves to get the understanding to achieve the answer? The students can develop their plan by using some of these strategies.A visual aid, showing patterns, may help the students use logical reasoning to assist in eliminating possibilities.Those particular groups could reflect and share what they learned regarding the problem-solving.A checklist should be reviewed to make sure they have covered everything from the original math problem(s).Here are four key strategies for solving math problems shared in this lesson: The students should have some time to try their plans and practice their calculations and solution estimates.Tell the students that mistakes and errors may occur and that it is part of the learning process.It develops and builds a 'math toolbox.'
