Round Table on Current Issues of International Humanitarian Law, the International Institute of Humanitarian Law and the International Committee of the Red Cross are pleased to announce the second ‘Sanremo New Voices in International Humanitarian Law’ essay competition.

Certain International Law Topics based on International Humanitarian Law have been most carefully chosen (for purely suggestive purposes, the students may, however, choose their own topics) which possess global relevance as well as encourage the participant’s freedom to analyze and convey their thoughts and probable solutions on the same.

The theme for the Essay Competition shall be ‘International Law Regime’ with a special focus on International Humanitarian Law.During the competition students compete in the role of the Prosecutor, Defence and alternatively, Victims Representatives or States.The students’ performances during the competition are assessed by experts in the field of international criminal law, including academics, judges and other practitioners from the ICC, ICTY, ICTR, ECCC and SCSL. The Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at American University Washington College of Law is proud to request the submission of papers for the Human Rights Essay Award.Candidates for the Award must hold a law degree and have a demonstrated experience or interest in international human rights law.anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, the 2019 Round Table topic will be Wither the human in armed conflict? Expert discussions will focus primarily on the impact that new technologies have on warfare and how international humanitarian law responds to technological developments.The International Institute of Humanitarian Law and the ICRC invite submissions addressing a subject under one of the following topics: Sanremo Round Table on Current Issues of International Humanitarian Law, which will take place on 4-6 September 2019 in Sanremo, Italy.Registration for the Competition shall be free of cost.Submission of Abstract shall amount to registration for the Competition.Preliminary round (application) - each team must submit a short essay (maximun 350 words) on a given topic.The ealuation of this essay will serve as a basis for selecting team to participate in the competition itself.
