The pure doctrine takes precedence before charity, apostles, or an angel from heaven. Charity is often deceived but is never put out because it has nothing to lose; it continues to do well even to the ungrateful.

They would not be showing love to God because God requires them “to train up a child in the way he should go”; and they would not be showing real love to the child either.

Or, if one sees a person taking poison, it would not be love to let him go right ahead—or even to join him so as to be sociable.
