Freire talks about the results of both the “banking concept” as well as the “problem-posing concept”.Look at the brightest people on Earth, past and present; and you see that these unique individuals had or have the power of imagination as well as intellect.
The reason for writing an article like this is pretty simple – address the problems in the community’s educational system.
Why must students sit in class and not say anything?
The students in return do not think for themselves, but as programmed machines that have formulas inputted in their system to operate a certain way.
As I mentioned earlier, there is no debate whatsoever as to why the information is what it is. (As a solution he poses the idea of having the educational system be run through what he calls the “problem-posing concept”, where the students don’t just accept blindly, but challenge their instructors.
He constantly makes the reader think to him/herself.
It’s as if he points out what is obvious in life, but yet it is hidden to our eyes.He sees the current system and refers to it as the “banking concept” and doesn’t like it.All that happens in this system is the professor lectures the whole class period. They are paying a whole lot of money so who gives anybody the right to say ‘just sit and don’t talk.’ Professors are in a large auditorium, practically preaching, to hundreds of students who seem like robots. They are either taking notes by hand or laptop, sleeping, staring as if everything was being absorbed in their brain, or just purely not paying attention. He states the pros and cons of the systems and constantly compares them.He tries to show you both sides and what they have to offer. He shows you the current situation, how students are ridden of their true education that they pay for and forced to accept the concepts of the teacher and the teacher only, where there is no thinking allowed for the students, and their imagination is slowly sucked out of their brains; and then proposes a new one, the “problem-posing concept” where the students are encouraged to use their imagination along with their intellect to challenge the teacher, teach the teacher, learn from the teacher, and also learn from themselves – the one that he wants to be put into effect. In recent years the various forces that are shaping the global economy, in particular processes of globalization, innovation and technological development, international money forms have had a critical bearing and role in the development of capital and securities market that have expanded rapidly as a result (Garrett, 1995).He sees that there is a problem with the way that students are taught and does not agree with it; he wants to change it because the students are not interested, or at least seem like they are not interested. When someone is in a class of 300-500 students, it will be difficult for he/she to understand and comprehend fully what the instructor is trying to tell them; especially if they are in the back rows, behind 250 students.
